Hey there! I am a graduate student in the School of Environment and Natural Resources at The Ohio State University. This is my final semester, but how could I leave without some formal training in botany? Characterizing a plant community can teach us about the history, climate, ecology and culture of a region.  I’ve been lucky to have the chance to work on research projects that involved plant ID in tropical rainforests and subtropical coastal wetlands. My current research focuses on orb-weaving spiders that live in coastal wetlands of south Florida (e.g., cypress swamps, mangroves) and the aquatic insects that they eat. With so much to learn, I’m looking forward to honing my skill in asking “–and what is that?!” and learning about the flora of Ohio.
